Laundry rooms are often some of the hardest-working spaces in a home, yet they’re rarely given the same thoughtful attention as kitchens or baths. For busy families, though, a well-designed laundry room can completely change the rhythm of everyday life.
This project is currently in the design phase, and we’re at one of my favorite stages: pulling together all of the materials and details that will shape how the space looks, functions, and feels. Cabinet finishes, wallpaper, tile, hardware, paint colors, and plumbing selections may seem like small decisions individually, but together they create a room that feels intentional and genuinely supportive of daily routines.
The Design Direction
While functionality drove the layout, the space’s visual direction was equally important. We wanted the laundry room to feel cheerful, tailored, and timeless rather than overly utilitarian.
The overall palette combines:
- Soft blue cabinetry
- Warm brass hardware and plumbing fixtures
- Crisp white subway tile
- Layered neutral paint tones
- A blue-and-white floral wallpaper that adds personality without overwhelming the room
The result feels fresh, classic, and refined, with a subtle coastal influence that ties beautifully into the home’s overall character.
One of my favorite parts of this project is how the details work together to elevate the room beyond basic functionality.
The brass faucet and hardware bring warmth and contrast against the soft blue cabinetry, while the wallpaper introduces movement and softness. The glossy white subway tile keeps the space feeling clean and bright, especially important in a room dedicated to chores and utility.
Even the paint selections were carefully considered to balance the cooler tones of the cabinetry and wallpaper with warmth and softness throughout the room.
These are the types of layered decisions that make a laundry room feel intentional instead of purely practical.
Why Laundry Rooms Matter More Than Ever
Over the years, I’ve noticed clients increasingly wanting their laundry rooms to feel more integrated into their homes’ overall design.
And honestly, it makes sense.
We spend a lot of time in these spaces. In busy households, especially, the laundry room becomes part of the rhythm of everyday life. When it’s poorly designed, you feel the friction constantly: not enough storage, nowhere to fold clothes, clutter piling up, awkward layouts, or finishes that don’t hold up over time.
But when it’s designed thoughtfully, it quietly supports the household in ways that make daily life feel easier.
Designing Beyond the Basics
Laundry rooms deserve just as much intentionality as the more public-facing rooms in a home. When designed thoughtfully, they can support routines, reduce stress, and bring a sense of order to everyday life.
As construction and installation continue, I’m excited to see these selections come to life and transform this hardworking room into one that truly supports the family who uses it every day.
